Hospitalizations involving alcohol, other substance disorders increased by 57% in recent years
A study of U.S. acute care visits from 2014 to 2018 found that on average, 9.3 million (9.4%) ED visits and 1.4 million (11.9%) hospitalizations per year involved alcohol use disorders or substance use disorders, with rates of both increasing over time.
