Hospital addiction medicine consults less likely among Black patients, study finds
In a retrospective study at an urban U.S. safety-net hospital, patients with substance use disorder were less likely to have an order placed for addiction medicine consultation if they were Black than if they were White, and Black patients who did receive an order were less likely to be seen.

AHA offers guiding principles to treat infective endocarditis in patients who inject drugs

Addiction treatment rare after hospitalization for endocarditis related to injection drug use
Fewer than one-quarter of adults received medication for opioid use disorder (OUD) in the three months after discharge for injection drug use-associated endocarditis, and OUD treatment was associated with reduced mortality risk only in the month when patients were receiving it.
