Haloperidol, atypical antipsychotics carry similar risks for older patients after surgery
Low to moderate doses of haloperidol, olanzapine, quetiapine, or risperidone didn't differ in risk of inpatient mortality, arrhythmia, pneumonia, and stroke or transient ischemic attack, according to a retrospective study of postoperative patients ages 65 years and older.

Switching to newer oral anticoagulant didn't benefit frail older patients with afib
A randomized trial that switched some frail atrial fibrillation patients from vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) to non-vitamin K oral anticoagulants found that such patients had more bleeding and no decrease in thromboembolic events compared to those who stayed on a VKA.

At a year, after-effects of COVID-19 hospitalization other than VTE similar to flu, sepsis
Compared to patients hospitalized with flu or sepsis, those with COVID-19 had increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), stroke, depression, and anxiety in the 30 days after discharge, but over a year, only the risk for VTE was significantly elevated.

Heart failure hospitalization increased prescribing of guideline-directed therapy
At admission, only 14.9% of patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction were on all indicated medications, and that rate increased to 32.8% at discharge, according to a new analysis of the Get With The Guidelines–Heart Failure Registry.
