Nicotine replacement during surgical hospitalization not associated with adverse outcomes

Perioperative aspirin may improve outcomes after noncardiac surgery in patients with prior PCI
Patients taking aspirin had a significantly lower risk of myocardial infarction, leading editorialists to conclude that benefits would exceed risks for those with a prior percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) except in procedures with very high bleeding risk.

Statins on day of heart surgery may improve survival, outcomes
After coronary artery bypass graft surgery, 30-day all-cause mortality was 1.7% in patients who took statins 24 hours or less before the operation, compared to 2.9% for those who took them 24 to 72 hours before and 3.8% for those who did not take them or whose last dose was more than 72 hours before surgery.
