Readmission penalties didn't improve COPD exacerbation care
The percentage of patients hospitalized with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who received recommended care increased at a rate of 0.16% per month before implementation of the Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program compared to 0.01% per month in the four years after.

Virtual instruction for inhaler technique nearly as effective as in-person instruction, study finds
In a small randomized trial of hospitalized patients with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, virtual education delivered by tablet computer led to similar improvements in inhaler technique as in-person instruction by trained staff.
