Negative trials of prone positioning, antiplatelet therapy for COVID-19
Telling inpatients to lay on their stomachs did not significantly improve outcomes, one study found, while others offered some mixed results on the effects of aspirin and P2Y12 inhibitors. Additional research showed that a commonly used triage score doesn't work for COVID-19 and that hospitalists' worry about catching the virus impaired their well-being.

Advance care planning assessed, therapeutic heparin debated in recent COVID-19 articles

Benefits of dedicated COVID-19 hospitals, ECMO; air sampling after aerosol-generating procedures
A health system reported outcomes at two hospitals created to treat only COVID-19. Another found that 42.9% of COVID-19 patients who got ECMO died, compared to 89.1% when it wasn't available. A sampling study compared viral particles in the air with different procedures.

Model for COVID-19 triage, updated guidelines for inpatients, negative trial of ivermectin
An electronic health record tool used nine variables to predict which inpatients with COVID-19 would deteriorate. Two societies updated their guidelines on inpatient thromboprophylaxis and remdesivir use. A trial found that ivermectin had no effect on disease progression or mortality.

Microbiome therapeutic reduced risk of recurrent C. difficile infection in phase 3 trial
An industry-funded trial of patients with recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection who received standard-of-care treatment with antibiotics found that those who also received the investigational drug had a 68% lower risk of recurrence than those who received placebo.

Adding P2Y12 inhibitor to heparin offered no benefit in non-critically ill COVID-19 inpatients
An open-label randomized trial at 60 hospitals in four countries found no increase in organ support-free days in patients who received a therapeutic dose of heparin plus a P2Y12 inhibitor versus heparin alone.

Aspirin for COVID-19 inpatients didn't reduce mortality, trial finds
New data from the RECOVERY trial found a slight reduction in clots but an increase in bleeding and no difference in 28-day mortality in patients randomized to daily aspirin during hospitalization compared to those receiving usual care.
