Deterioration alert system did not reduce escalations from medical and surgical units

Rapid response teams didn't change hospital mortality among Medicare patients, study finds
An analysis of 56 hospitals from Get With the Guidelines-Resuscitation found that implementation of a rapid response team was associated with no change in inpatient mortality trends at 50 of the hospitals and higher-than-expected mortality at two.

No improvement in inpatient mortality associated with increase in emergency calls
Rates of emergency (or rapid-response) calls varied month to month from 9.21 to 30.69 per 1,000 discharges in one Australian hospital, and there was no association between call rates and inpatient mortality.
