Teleintensivist care didn't reduce ICU length of stay in Brazilian trial
In Brazilian ICUs without an on-site intensivist, an intervention in which a teleintensivist provided daily multidisciplinary rounds, monthly audit and feedback meetings, and evidence-based clinical protocols did not change patient outcomes compared to usual care.

Proprietary sepsis prediction model not accurate in external validation study
The Epic Sepsis Model had low sensitivity and did a poor job identifying sepsis in hospitalized patients, researchers found. It also potentially increased alert fatigue, by generating alerts in 18% of hospitalized patients.

Morning discharges did not reduce hospital or ED length of stay
In a study of seven hospitals in Canada, a hospital's number of discharges between 8 a.m. and noon was not significantly associated with any reduction in ED or hospital length of stay, 30-day readmissions, or in-hospital mortality.

Hospitalists send or read an average of 130 secure electronic messages a day, study finds
The mean number of messages handled per hour was 13, and the median lag time between when messages were sent and when they were opened was 39 seconds, according to an analysis of secure chat communications at one academic center.
