No association between appropriate antibiotics and survival of elderly CAUTI patients
The results suggest that clinicians could defer antibiotic treatment of catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) in some patients until full clinical and microbiologic evaluation is complete, the study authors said.

1 in 5 inpatient antibiotic regimens results in adverse drug event
Researchers also looked at whether the prescribed antibiotics were clinically indicated and found that 19% of them were not, most commonly due to treatment of asymptomatic bacteriuria or noninfectious lower respiratory tract conditions.
