Patient-reported behavioral, economic factors predict mortality after cardiac hospitalization

Study explores survival rates and duration of CPR for in-hospital cardiac arrest
Of all the patients who received CPR for in-hospital cardiac arrest, 67% had a return of spontaneous circulation, which occurred at a median of seven minutes following the start of chest compressions, a retrospective study found.

Oxygen saturation targets not related to long-term outcomes in critically ill adults

Study of Medicare claims finds good outcomes with hospital at home
Only 6.2% of Medicare fee-for-service patients who were hospitalized at home had to be escalated to another setting and 0.5% died during the admission, according to an analysis of 2022 to 2023 claims data. Their 30-day readmission rate was 15.6%.

AHA issues interim advice on temperature management after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest

Disparities seen in postdischarge care for Medicaid beneficiaries
A study in Alabama found that 58% of Medicaid beneficiaries with diabetes and heart failure did not receive guideline-recommended care after hospitalization. Risk of inadequate follow-up was particularly high among patients who were Black or Hispanic.

Patients discharged home after stroke less likely to receive rehab
The study also found that, after stroke, 35.0% of patients received no physical therapy, 48.8% got no occupational therapy, and 61.7% didn't undergo speech therapy. Predictors of whether a patient would get therapy could be identified during stroke hospitalization.
