Oral antibiotics after incomplete IV therapy showed benefit in patients with history of injection drug use
Among persons who inject drugs who were hospitalized with complicated Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infections, those who received oral antibiotics after an incomplete IV antibiotic course were significantly less likely to experience microbiologic failure or death than patients discharged without oral antibiotics.

Preadmission statin exposure associated with reduced mortality in infective endocarditis
Among patients with infective endocarditis who took statins before hospitalization, continuing the drugs was associated with nearly 50% lower risk of both one-year and in-hospital mortality versus stopping them, a study from Hong Kong found.

Transitioning to oral therapy for infective endocarditis supported by real-world study
A retrospective study at three L.A. hospitals found similar rates of clinical success at 90 days in patients who received entirely IV therapy or were transitioned to oral antibiotics for infective endocarditis, and adverse events were less common in the latter group.

Functional status predicts benefit of surgery in older patients with infective endocarditis
Surgery was strongly associated with one-year survival in patients hospitalized with left-sided infective endocarditis at ages 80 years or older, except if they were unable to walk unassisted or had an Activities of Daily Living score less than 4 at baseline.
