Research on strokes and readmissions in COVID-19, updated guidance from NIH and SSC
One study showed that strokes were rare in COVID-19 patients, while another didn't find any connection between fever or biomarkers before discharge and readmissions. The NIH and the Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) updated their COVID-19 critical care recommendations.

Hospital antibiograms may not be accurate for selecting initial empiric therapy
A retrospective cohort study of Veterans Health Administration facilities found that facility-level antibiograms had limited utility in predicting individual resistance for Escherichia coli and Klebsiella species in individual patients.

COVID-19 research focuses on nosocomial transmission, risk stratification, vaccines
Recent studies showed that the risk of catching SARS-CoV-2 in a hospital is low for patients and varies by job and preventive measures for health care workers. A model and a serology study identified patients with worse outcomes from COVID-19. Vaccine studies were positive, but concerns arose about safety.

Short course of antibiotics worked as well as long for Enterobacteriaceae bacteremia
Rates of mortality, recurrent bloodstream infections, and Clostridium difficile infections within 30 days were similar whether patients received eight or 15 days of antibiotics.
