Time to antibiotics matters for septic shock, not so much for sepsis without shock

Every hour that antibiotics were delayed was associated with higher mortality from septic shock, but patients with sepsis and no shock only had elevated risk of death if their antibiotics were not administered within six hours, according to a new analysis.

Metformin during hospitalization associated with improved outcomes in type 2 diabetes and sepsis

In a retrospective cohort study in Pennsylvania, adults with type 2 diabetes and sepsis who were exposed to metformin during hospitalization had lower 90-day mortality and better kidney outcomes than those who were not.

Study of Medicare claims finds good outcomes with hospital at home

Only 6.2% of Medicare fee-for-service patients who were hospitalized at home had to be escalated to another setting and 0.5% died during the admission, according to an analysis of 2022 to 2023 claims data. Their 30-day readmission rate was 15.6%.
