Proprietary sepsis prediction model not accurate in external validation study
The Epic Sepsis Model had low sensitivity and did a poor job identifying sepsis in hospitalized patients, researchers found. It also potentially increased alert fatigue, by generating alerts in 18% of hospitalized patients.

Patient, family engagement may help reduce falls during hospitalization
Implementation of the Fall Tailoring Interventions for Patient Safety toolkit was associated with a 15% overall adjusted reduction in falls and an adjusted 34% reduction in injurious falls among adult inpatients at three U.S. academic medical centers.

Morning discharges did not reduce hospital or ED length of stay
In a study of seven hospitals in Canada, a hospital's number of discharges between 8 a.m. and noon was not significantly associated with any reduction in ED or hospital length of stay, 30-day readmissions, or in-hospital mortality.
