Ceftolozane-tazobactam associated with better outcomes for multidrug-resistant P. aeruginosa

An industry-funded retrospective study of 420 U.S. patients with multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, primarily pneumonia, found higher rates of clinical success among those treated with ceftolozane-tazobactam versus ceftazidime-avibactam (61% vs. 52%).

Higher anticoagulation dose associated with lower mortality in hospitalized COVID-19 patients

A meta-analysis of randomized trials found that therapeutic doses of anticoagulation with heparin were associated with lower 28-day mortality rates than prophylactic doses in patients hospitalized for COVID-19.

App-based palliative care intervention no better than usual care at addressing family needs

Palliative care consultations and family meetings were more common among intervention participants but did not translate into reductions in unmet palliative care needs or psychological distress, trial results show.
