The FDA approved tirzepatide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide receptor agonist, for obstructive sleep apnea in some patients, as well as a generic for liraglutide, among other actions.
Differing high flow rates after extubation associated with similar outcomes
A small randomized trial of high-flow nasal cannula in patients being extubated found similar rates of reintubation and noninvasive ventilation with a flow rate of 40 L/min versus 60 L/min.
Hospital closures may redistribute residency slots away from underserved areas
An analysis of 19 closures of hospitals with residency programs found that a total of 819.6 residency full-time equivalents and $123 million in Medicare GME funding were transferred to other hospitals. Receiving hospitals were less likely to be urban and more likely to be large.
Survey finds hospitalist burnout linked with desire to stop, reduce work
Fifty-seven percent of surveyed hospitalists reported high levels of emotional exhaustion, 32% reported high levels of depersonalization, and 69% reported they were considering stopping or reducing their work in the next five years, a study conducted in British Columbia in 2022 found.
