Risk for poor outcomes may be higher in previously healthy patients hospitalized for sepsis

While 97.4% of patients hospitalized for community-onset sepsis had preexisting comorbid conditions, those who were healthy before admission had higher short-term mortality rates in a recent study.

Microbiome therapeutic reduced risk of recurrent C. difficile infection in phase 3 trial

An industry-funded trial of patients with recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection who received standard-of-care treatment with antibiotics found that those who also received the investigational drug had a 68% lower risk of recurrence than those who received placebo.

Bedspacing not associated with adverse outcomes in general internal medicine patients

Patients admitted to off-service versus on-service wards did not show any significant difference in mortality risk, and they had slightly shorter hospital stays and fewer 30-day readmissions to the general internal medicine service, a study found.

Clinical decision support increased deprescribing but did not affect adverse drug events

A cluster randomized multicenter trial in older inpatients compared the intervention, which included personalized reports to clinicians of deprescribing opportunities, with usual medication reconciliation.
